The Caterpillar manufacturing plant in Lafayette, Indiana was opened in 1982, and has since become the company's main source for medium-speed diesel engines for marine, petroleum, electric power, locomotive and industrial applications. Producing Caterpillar's most well-recognized and durable engines, the 3500 and 3600/C280 series engines, the Lafayette Engine Center now consists of 1.3 million square feet (123,000 square meters). |
